Sliding into second place, Porirua has scored 100,000 Gigapoints and its first mini-competition placing thanks to a delightful video about the benefits of GigaWiFi in education. A great effort from a town that has demonstrated great community spirit and dedication to Gigatown since the start.
Wanaka continues to stake its claim to the top of the leader board – achieving third place and an additional 50,000 Gigapoints with its cheeky adventure video showcasing how GigaWiFi can help create movie magic through superfast file transfers.
Nelson’s win sees the middle of middle earth romp up the leader board into 2nd place. Set to Händel’s invigorating Hallelujah Chorus, the judging panel said the video scored high for demonstrating true understanding of how GigaWiFi can transform the town.
The independent judging panel, led by Chattanooga Smart Cities expert Sheldon Grizzle, was very impressed by the creative uses for ubiquitous GigaWiFi in the various cities throughout New Zealand.
Sheldon said: “There is a clear understanding of the impact that this kind of connectivity can, and will, have in communities. We have high hopes for the citizens of New Zealand and we look forward to seeing how the various industry sectors leverage this new asset.”
On behalf of the judging panel and the team at Chorus, we want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the Facebook Smart Cities competition, and for helping educate New Zealanders on the potential of GigaWiFi to transform how we live, work and play.
